Young actors impress in three-day short play fest

JAMMU, Apr 19: Organized by Samooh Theatre and Society for Environment, Education & Modern Art, the three-day short play festival which concluded at the K L Saigal Hall, here today, not only provided a platform to the new theatre groups but also the young and budding actors, some of which impressed with their natural talent and facility.
The last day of the festival was marked with performances of four short plays. Vijay Tendulkar’s ‘Bobby’, was presented as Dogri adaptation by Rash Group, under direction of Ravinder Sharma.
The play ‘Bobby’ is the story of a little girl who, neglected by her working parents creates an imaginary world of characters in her mind and plays with them to pass time. This play also showcases her quest to receive her parents’ love and attention..
Marked with dance sequences and songs, today’s presentation was appreciated by audience.
Aditi Aryan as Bobby, showed exceptional talent in delivery of dialogues matched with emotions, body and dance movements. Other who acted as various characters and gave good performances included Samdish, Rohit Chib, Sandeep Thakur, Neha Sahrma, Rajat Gupta, Pooja Bhagat, Kartik Singh and Gautam Kumar.
Earlier, the first production of the day was Maryada by A-8 Group. Written and directed by Amit Sharma, the play also impressed for its theme and treatment. The cast included Bharti Bhat, Pradeep Sharma, Sandhya, Noorani Bhat, Amrik Singh and Aman.
Actor’s Academy’s staged adaptation of Munshi Prem Chand ‘Balak’. The play is a satire on hypocrisy of so-called educated and elite of the society as compared to so-called simple minded ordinary members of the society. The director of the play, Aditya Bhanu, who also acted, along with Anroop Pathania, gave an impressive performance by successfully bringing forth the message of the play.
Mohan Singh’s Dogri play ‘Vairve’ presented by Kasali Punjabi Rangmanch under the direction of Javed Gill, being as a well crafted performance was also liked by the audience Those who acted were Neeraj Sodhi, Anuradha Bhagat, Sohan Verma, Sahid Sayal, Naman Sharma and Seema Mehra.
The chief guest of the event was Gagan Bhagat, MLA, who also felicitated Avatar Bhat, senior journalist and poets from Kathua, Santosh Dhiman and Sunil Shad.
Tomorrow, those actors and others who have been adjudged by a panel of judges for various categories of awards will be given awards in the award distribution ceremony.
