JAMMU, July 31: Young Lawyers Association (YLA), J&K High Court here today urged upon the Lieutenant Governor to either revert powers of registration back to judicial officers or establish the offices of sub-registrars near or inside the court premises of the area to make them work properly as whole bar as well as bench present there will keep a vigil upon them.
In a handout Nitin Bakhshi, YLA president said power of registration of documents like sale deed, lease deed, mortgage deed, rent deed etc were earlier vested with judicial officers and people were happy as the process was smooth, speedy and less expensive but later on, the powers were transferred to sub-registrars whose offices were not even established at that time and even today.
“Their offices are also incomplete and without proper infrastructure for common masses, lawyers and other visitors besides the staff and sub-registrars lack legal knowledge pertaining to registration of documents, which leaves hurdles in the way of common masses and lawyers,” he claimed.
The YLA leader claimed that documents are rejected and refused by sub-registrars on baseless and flimsy grounds and they are not even ready to discuss legal points with the lawyers.
“In addition to this, corruption is on peak in all these offices and there is no check. People are running pillar to post but nobody is there to listen,” he maintained.
