Yatra to remain suspended today

SRINAGAR, Aug 10: Though Amarnath yatra from Jammu to holy cave remained suspended today due to bandh call and no yatri vehicle was allowed to leave for Kashmir Valley, 882 pilgrims performed darshan in holy cave today.
The yatra will remain suspended tomorrow also in view of extension of bandh call for 48 hours more. District Development Commissioner, A K Sahu told Excelsior that the Amarnath yatra will remain suspended tomorrow in view of the bandh call and no yatri vehicle will be allowed to leave for holy cave from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas tomorrow.
He however said the Buddha Amarnath yatra to Mandi Poonch will leave from Jammu as usual.
According to an official spokesman, 360 pilgrims left for holy cave of Swami Amarnath situated at an altitude of 14,000 feet in deep Himalayas in South Kashmir district of Anantnag from Baltal base camp via shortest track while 188 pilgrims left for cave shrine from Baltal-Nunwan base camp via traditional Chandanwari track.
The spokesman said that no pilgrim was allowed to leave for Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar yatri Niwas today in view of bandh.
He said the weather enroute to holy cave on both Baltal and Chandanwari tracks was partially cloudy today.
He said with 882 pilgrims performing darshan in cave shrine the total number of pilgrims visiting the holy cave since the yatra started on June 28 has reached to 3,50,784. Till yesterday 3,49,902 pilgrims had performed darshan in holy cave, he added.
