Y V Sharma lists achievements as CCI president

JAMMU, June 19:  Listing his achievements, Y V Sharma, the outgoing president of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, today said that he tried his best to solve the problems being faced by the business community.
“We succeeded in getting VAT remission to Industry extended, Toll Tax exemption on various items, 100 percent tax exemption  under GST in respect of job works done by industrial units, Central Excise exemption on second substantial expansion, creation of new Railway division at Jammu,  etc for growth of  business in Jammu”, he said in a statement, issued here.
Chamber also successfully pleaded the cause of Rice Shellers with Government in getting the export of broken Basmati rice exempted from the purview of toll tax besides getting turnover tax enhanced from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 60 lakh under VAT for the assessees with mandatory Audit of Account, he added.
Justifying his stand taken against frequent bandhs and strikes, Mr Sharma said that chamber succeeded in its efforts to minimize the losses to the business community by not resorting to strikes.
Highlighting some other achievements, the outgoing president reminded that the Chamber opposed tooth and nail the Income Tax Department   action of conducting raids and surveys on reputed business houses as well as FDI in retail sector. I actively took the issue of not getting the hotels sealed by the Pollution Control Board, he added.
In the statement, Mr Sharma also mentioned about various other issues that were taken up by him as the CCI president with the Government for improvement of business activities in the State.
