This has reference to the article “Maintaining quality specification” written by Anil Mahajan. One of the biggest challenges of the state is the bad condition of its roads. There is no doubt about it that for the last few years the road connectivity with far flung remote areas, villages and towns has increased. But the construction and maintenance of these roads is far from satisfaction. Even the roads in the main cities and towns of the State show utter negligence and carelessness of the concerned department.
As a fact of matter engineers and contractors openly flout norms while laying roads. It is true that new black topped roads don’t withstand even for the half season. Blacktopping norms are not properly followed. Absence of right and left drainage system of roads makes the situation more worse. One fails to understand that the roads constructed by the army and its agencies (Becon Sampark, CPWD) last long and need no repairs even for years why our engineers and other agencies fail to follow their standard in the road constructions.
