World Wide Web

Niraj Dubey

The World Wide Web was designed originally as an interactive world of shared information through which people could communicate with each other and with machines. The Web is simply defined as the universe of global network-accessible information. It is an abstract space with which people can interact, and is currently chiefly populated by interlinked pages of text, images and animations, with occasional sounds, three dimensional worlds, and videos. The goal of the web was to be a shared information space through which people (and machines) could communicate. The intent was that this space should span from a private information system to public information, from high value carefully checked and designed material, to off-the-cuff ideas which make sense only to a few people and may never be read again. Web 1.0 (Hypertext web) was first implementation of the web and it lasted from 1989 to 2005.
It was define as web of information connections. The role of the web was very passive in nature. Web 2.0 (Social web) is the second generation of web. Web 2.0 include “relationship” technologies, participatory media and a social digital technology which in term can also defined as the wisdom web. Web 3.0 marks the third generation of web. It can be also stated as “executable Web”. The basic idea of web 3.0 (Semantic web) is to define structure data and link them in order to more effective discovery, automation, integration, and reuse across various applications. Web 4.0 (Future web) can be considered as an Ultra-Intelligent Electronic Agent, symbiotic web and Ubiquitous web. Interaction between humans and machines in symbiosis was motive behind of the symbiotic web. Internet is full of information. Everyone read topics according to their interest and gain information. Internet is made up of billions of devices connected together and share information all over the world. Big amount of people don’t know about that internet is divided into three categories. These are Surface web, Deep web and dark web. So today we can discuss about these three categories.
Surface Web
Surface web is the normal web which is visible for all users using internet. The Surface Web (also called the Visible Web, Indexed Web or Lightnet) is the portion of the www (world wide web) that is readily available to the general public and searchable with standard web search engines. Google is the great example of search engine. The websites, web-pages and information that you find using web search engine like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. only portray that you are exploring just the surface of the web. The user can open websites and gain information. But the interesting thing is that the surface web is only a 4% area of internet that the users used. The Surface Web is made with a collection of static pages. These are Web pages that are in a server, available to be accessed by any search engine. According to one source, as of June 14, 2015, Google’s index of the surface web contains about 14.5 billion pages.
Deep Web
Deep web is the secret web which is not visible for normal user. The deep web consists of a website or any page on the website which are not indexed by search engines. The user can only access it if he/she has a authorized person to access it and has any permission like (URL, username and password etc). Deep web is used to store most personal information like (Cloud storages, any organization personal data and military data etc). The content that you cannot find using the search engine is termed as deep web. For example- If you search for something specific in the search engine it will give you many links and you will only find the content that you are looking for after clicking those links. Every website has its own search box. Thus the search engine’s search is limited to navigate the website. It won’t give you the links that are deep inside the website even if your search is specific. You have to go through different websites to find the particular link. In simple terms, there are places in web that cannot be accessed by search engines but can be accessed if you have an address.
Dark Web
But now we can discuss about the most dangerous part of the internet which is called dark web or darknet. Dark Web is illegal to use. The all criminal activities are act upon on dark web. The criminal activities like drugs dealing, killing humans etc. The user can only access it if the user has Tor Browser. The TOR (the onion routing) browser is a web browser designed for anonymous web surfing and protection against traffic analysis. Although Tor is often associated with the darknet and criminal activity, the browser is often used for legitimate reasons by law enforcement officials, reporters, activists, whistle blowers and ordinary security-conscious individuals. TOR was originally developed by and for the United States Navy to protect sensitive U.S. government communications. Many dark web websites are banned by Tor but the dark web is totally not cleared. So my decision is that don’t go on the dark web because it was illegal and I am not responsible for any bad thing. The data that are purposefully unrevealed and is not attainable through any standard web browsers is termed as dark web. Dark Web is mostly used for illegal and nefarious activities.
