JAMMU, May 17: World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was celebrated today by various institutions in Jammu.
The Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Chak Bhalwal, Jammu celebrated the day by organizing a function in which Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal was the chief guest.
While addressing the gathering, Dr Sameru deliberated upon the importance of wireless telecommunication technology in present globalized era. She emphasized that the adoption of wireless communication & information technology is an encouraging option and need of the hour for the students is to carry on higher studies in present scenario of competitive world.
The function started with a welcome address by Er Neeraj Dubey, Assistant Professor in the Computer Engineering Department who highlighted the journey of telecommunication from telegraphy to 4G and shared his technical ideas about the significance of 3G & 4G in today’s communication scenario.
Sumeer Khajuria elaborated the technological advancements in the field of telecommunication.
The students from different streams of GCET participated in the event and put forth their views on the Topic “Evolution of Telecommunication from Telegraphy to 4G”. They presented a detailed view of the emerging trends in the present day communication scenario.
The function concluded with vote of thanks by Er Rajiv Bali.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day ” today at Institutional Complex, Sector-3, Channi Himmat, Jammu by holding a seminar on theme topic “Broadband for Sustainable Development”. The Seminar was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments and organizations.
The seminar was chaired by Atul Sharma, ITS, General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Jammu and presided over by Er Rajinder Singh, FIE; Chairman of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre.
Five papers on the theme topic were presented by Er S C Thukral, FIE; Er B L Rawal, MIE; Er Anil Verma, MIE; Er Vijay Kumar Sharma, AMIE & Er Supinder Jeet Singh, AMIE.
The speakers suggested development of broadband backbone infrastructure by promoting Public Private Partnership (PPP) models in the rural areas so that broadband is available to every common citizen of the country. This way use of broadband will become cost effective and more accessible due to its cheap availability. They also advocated for identifying the missing linkages and bottlenecks to connect the “unconnected” through the development of interactive optical fibres and microwave systems.
Interestingly, one of the speakers highlighted the factors plaguing the present day society due to use of broadband and suggested various remedies to all the regulators in telecommunication sector so that ill effects of broadband are minimized and subsequently eroded from the society.
Atul Sharma, ITS, chief guest on the occasion, said that information society is moving with a rapid pace due to use of broadband and coming times will be really difficult without its use. He further stated that no technology is good or bad and it is we, the humans, who make it so.
Er Mohinder Singh, MIE; honorary secretary presented the welcome address, conducted the proceedings of the seminar and proposed the vote of thanks.
Mahant Bachittar Singh College of Engineering and Technology Jammu celebrated the day by organizing a Telecommunication Fest at the campus auditorium.
Chairman MBSCET, S Rangil Singh and Principal of the college , Prof S K Badyal jointly inaugurated the fest by lighting ceremonial lamp in presence of various dignitaries including Prof A S Sudan, Prof Amrik Singh, HS Gill and others.
On the occasion, competitions were organized in events like Binary War, Techno-Quiz, Poster making and circuit tracking etc in which students of the different departments took part.
Radhima Puri and Anushree Gupta were adjudged winners in Binary War while Arshdeep Singh and Amikapal Sudan won the Poster making event. Avantika and Akshay Kudyar won competition in Techno Quiz and awarded trophies and certificates. The trophy in circuit tracking was claimed by Durga Prashad Sharma and Shivam.
