JAMMU, May 8: World Red Cross Day on the theme “Everywhere for every one smile” was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal across the State to pay tribute to Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross.
To mark the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant”, District Red Cross Society Udhampur organized a symposium competition on the theme “Everywhere for Everyone Smile” at Conference Hall of DC office Udhampur. DDC Ravinder Kumar who is also the Chairman of District Red Cross society, was the chief guest on the occasion. Around 12 students drawn from different educational institutions participated in the contest on the occasion.

In symposium competition, Ifat of class 8th clinched first position while Javinder Singh of class 10th and Anisha of class 8th stood 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Later, the chief guest distributed certificates among the participants of the contest.
Earlier, Secretary, District Red Cross Society, Udhampur and Dr VP Sharma gave detailed account of activities of the society carried out during the last fiscal.
District Red Cross Society (DRCS) Kishtwar celebrated World Red Cross Day with great enthusiasm. Chairman District Red Cross Society, Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana inaugurated the function by hoisting the Red Cross flag. A large number of locals, Red Cross volunteers including the students attended the programme. SSP Kishtwar, Abrar Chowdhary, Commanding Officer CRPF, Honorary Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, Aszgar Sheikh and ADDC Kishtwar Imam Din were also present on the occasion.
District Red Cross Society (DRCS), Poonch celebrated Word Red Cross Day by holding a massive promotional rally of students.
Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch Abdul Hamid flagged off a rally of students from Government Boys Higher Secondary School, which after passing through main township areas culminated at Qila market.
Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch Sudarshan Sharma, Members of Red Cross Society, Volunteers and Staff members of different schools were also present on the occasion.
District Red Cross Society Doda celebrated World Red Cross Day. District Development Commissioner and the Chairman of District Red Cross society, Bhawani Rakwal was the chief guest.
A large number of students representing various schools of the district participated in the debate and painting competition held on this year’s theme of the World Red Cross Day “Everywhere for Everyone Smile”.
Additional Deputy Commis-sioner, Pawan Parihar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Tariq Hussain Naik, Chief Medical Officer, Wajid Ali Najar and many others were present in the programme.
Anie Suhail a student of Faridia Model HSS Doda was declared as winner in debate, whereas in Painting, Iqra Balwan and Nabeel Suharwardy shared the first prize.
Earlier, DDC flagged off a rally of students, which passed throughout the town and finally culminated at Boys HSS Doda.
District Administration Reasi organized a rally and cultural programme to mark the Red Cross Day.
Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswami G was the chief guest on the occasion, while Rakesh Wazir, Honorary General Secretary Red Cross Society was also present.
A short documentary on Red Cross activities in the district was also screened for the participants.
Meanwhile, a rally was also flagged off by Deputy Commissioner which witnessed massive participation of local volunteers, National Cadet Corp (NCC), teachers, students and women.
The participants and officers of Government Departments contributed funds towards the DRCS and handed over the same to the Chairman of the Society.
Red Cross day was also celebrated in schools and other institutions at Mahore, Dharmari, Pouni, Arnas, etc.
World Red Cross Day was observed across the Kashmir division with various programmes organized in different districts including Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora.
In Srinagar, the State Red Cross Society J&K organized a programme at Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh in which Secretary School Education Farooq Ahmad Shah was the chief guest.
General Secretary State Indian Red Cross Society, Muhammad Shafi Rather said that the Society has collected 4000 points of blood in 32 blood donation camps.
In Bandipora, the Indian System of Medicine (ISM) in collaboration with district police organized a blood donation camp at district Police Lines there. The camp saw 50 volunteers donate blood pints. SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulfkar was among those who donated the blood.
In Kupwara, the District Red Cross Committee (DRCC) organized a grand programme to celebrate the day where ADC Rahul Yadav was also present as the chief guest. ADC while highlighting its importance said the DRCC has an important role to play in natural disasters.
In Baramulla, to mark the day, the District Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Chief Medical officer of the district organized a programme at Dak Banglow here where Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Baba, was the chief guest and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Bashir Ahmad Bhat the guest of honour. Assistant Commissioner Revenue B A Bhat was also present on the occasion.
A function was organized by the Indian Red Cross Society District Branch Kargil on the International Red Cross Day at auditorium hall Kargil today. On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Vikas Kundal who is also Chairman of the District Red Cross Committee Kargil was the chief guest, while Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Gupta was the guest of honor.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, Headquarter Assistant to Deputy Commissioner Kargil Muhammad Shabir, Assistant Director Information Kargil Abdul Ahad Bhat, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kargil Muhammad Hussain Rehnuma, District Cultural Officer Kargil Muhammad Ali Tak, other district officers besides students from different educational institutes and prominent citizens also participated in the programme.
Students of Government Degree College Kargil presented a skit on volunteerism while as a question-answer session was also held and prizes were distributed among the winners.
Coordinator, Red Cross Committee Kargil, Muhammad Hadi and Member Red Cross Ahmad Ali briefed about the aims and objectives of the Red Cross movement.
Meanwhile, a donation of Rs 1065 was contributed towards the Red Cross Fund by the participants on the occasion.
Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Samba celebrated World Red Cross Day. During the function, Prof Kamaljeet briefed the students and teachers about the importance of the day. Dr Dalbir Singh, Dr MS Pathania, Prof Renu Angurana, Prof Rajesh Gupta and Dr Yash Paul, Principal, Dr GS Rakwal and Dr Rawan Kumar, Convenor Red Ribbon Club of the College were also present.
International Red Cross Day was celebrated at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Rehari. Alyas Khan, Sub Divisional Magistrate was the chief guest on the occasion. Cultural programmes were presented by the students. Principal Rajni Kotwal threw light on the importance of the day, while Jyoti Malhotra conducted the proceedings of the programme.
Government Girls High School Pouni celebrated International Red Cross Day under the guidance of BS Jaral Chief Education Officer Reasi. On the occasion, students presented their views in the symposium on “Together for Humanity” theme followed by poster making and awareness rally taken out in the local periphery. The program was organized under the stewardship of Sanjeev Kumar Sharma Incharge CCA. Vaishno Devi HM of the institution, Rasveer Singh, Ujagar Singh, Daleep Kumar, Samrender Kumar, Laxmi Devi, Reenu Devi and Sanjeev Kumar were also present on the occasion.
World Red Cross Day was celebrated in British International School, Jammu. Students were briefed about the importance of the day and a group activity was done in all the classes. Students collaborated with each other and made a first aid box.
