World No Tobacco Day observed

JAMMU, May 31: World No Tobacco Day was observed across the State with enthusiasm
JAMMU: Health Centre and Department of Botany, University of Jammu in association with Indian Dental Association (IDA) organised an awareness rally to mark World No Tobacco Day.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU, flagged off this rally from Fountain Plaza, University of Jammu, in which more than 150 participants including teachers, non-teaching staff, students, scholars from the University of Jammu and students and interns from Institute of Dental Sciences, Sehora, Jammu took part.
Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Botany and Convenor, Health Centre Advisory Committee, Dr Gautam Sharma, President IDA, Dr Bhupinder Singh, Secretary IDA, Dr Rajiv Mengi, Dr Umang Jamwal, Dr Vasit Khajuria, Dr Kunal Vuthoo, Dr Himja Mengi and Dr Vibha Raina were also present.
Meanwhile, University of Jammu in association with Indian Dental Association (IDA), also organised awareness lectures. On the occasion, Dr Mandeep Kaur, Asstt Prof, Department of Oral Pathology, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu and Dr Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon, University of Jammu and President IDA were the expert speakers. Sumit Gandotra from Colgate India distributed toothpastes and toothbrushes to all the participants in the rally.
DODA: Government Higher Secondary School Chiralla celebrated No Tobacco Day by organising a symposium at Cluster level in which students from different schools actively participated. Vice Principal of the institution, Shamim Ahmad witnessed the function as a chief guest. Michal Bhagat from GMS Bolian got first prize while Sahil Singh and Anchal Singh from GHSS Chiralla secured second and third prizes respectively. A huge rally was also taken out which passed through the main market of Tehsil headquarter Chiralla.
SRINAGAR: In connection with World No Tobacco Day, a day-long Inter College/School Seminar on Tobacco Control was held at Government Women College, MA Road Srinagar. The function was organized by Voluntary Health Association of India and J&K Voluntary Health Association (J&KVHA) in collaboration with Government College for Women MA Road, Srinagar. Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board, Prof Dr Nirmal Gupta, was the chief guest on the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof Shaheena Altaf presented the welcome address. Among others, Executive Director, J&KVHA, AM Mir, State Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, MS Rather, renowned poet Zarief Ahmad Zarief, GM Mir Lasjan, prominent citizens besides students from various educational institutions of the Valley attended the seminar. On the occasion, Rehan Hamid of Burn Hall School got first position, while Aqib Manzoor of Government Degree College, Anantnag secured second position and Fida Hussain of Government Degree College, Sopore got 3rd position. Faheem Ashraf of SP Higher Secondary School and Mehvish of Government Women College MA Road were adjudged fourth and fifth respectively. Certificates were also given away among other participants. A booklet titled “World No Tobacco Day” was also released on the occasion.
