World Blood Donors Day celebrated across J&K

JAMMU, June 14: World Blood Donors Day was today celebrated here by different organisations across Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
NSS GGM Science College celebrated World Blood Donors Day under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Ravender Tickoo and under the guidance of NSS PO, Dr. Deepali Mahajan. The aim was to raise global awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products’ transfusion and of the contribution by voluntary blood donors.
NSS Unit and Red Ribbon Club of Government College of Education Jammu celebrated the day by organising the Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competitions.
The events were organized by NSS Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal and Convener of Red Ribbon Club Dr Radhika Mahajan under the patronage of Principal of the College Dr Kulvinder Kour.
Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Neeraj Verma, Prof Seema Kumari and Prof Sarita Dogra also graced the occasion.
Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College, Vijaypur organized an awareness campaign on World Blood Donors Day. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Sudan motivated the students with slogan ‘Blood Is Life: Pass It On’. Convener of Red Ribbon Club, Poonam Kundan assisted the students in raising awareness regarding the persons who can donate blood safely.
Shree Vaishno Institute (SVI) Kalu Chak celebrated World Blood Donors Day. In this regard a programme was organised by SVI Managing Director, Sushil Singh Charak along with SVI students. Theme for the programme was ‘Donating Blood Is an Act of Solidarity. Join the effort and Save Lives’.
NSS Unit of GMC Jammu organised a voluntary blood donation camp to commemorate World Blood Donors Day. Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, Prof. and Head Department of Community Medicine GMC Jammu and PO NSS Unit GMC Jammu along with Dr. Meena Sidhu, Prof. and Head, Blood Transfusion Department inaugurated a voluntary blood donation camp in which about 30 pre-final year students donated their blood.
NSS Unit/Red Ribbon Club of Government GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar celebrated World Blood Donors Day under the patronage of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the College. On this occasion a seminar on Blood Donation was organised. Aim of the event was to highlight the role that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.
NSS Units GDC Kathua in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club, GDC Kathua celebrated World Blood Donors Day. On this occasion, NSS Programme Officer delivered a motivational lecture on the importance of the day. About 25 volunteers gave their name for donating blood. After that, a poster making competition and slogan writing competition was held among the volunteers on the theme of ‘Thank You Blood Donors’ for serving the humanity.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Akhnoor organized Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition on World Donors Day. Prof. Surinder Singh Parihar, Principal of the College was chief guest of the occasion.
Red Ribbon Club of GCW Udhampur in collaboration with NSS Unit of the College and J&K AIDS Control Society celebrated World Blood Donors Day. On this occasion, a national webinar on the topic, ‘Scientific insights about the blood constituents, donation and transfusion’ was organized. The chief guest, Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma said, in present scenario, such awareness lectures are need of the hour in educational institutions and desired that everybody should actively participate in blood donations so that they can save someone’s life.
NHPC Regional Office, Jammu celebrated World Blood Donors Day at the office premises in Narwal. On this occasion, Rajan Kumar, Executive Director, NHPC Regional Office, Jammu in his address said that blood donation is a virtuous work and if one donates blood, he/she helps save the life of someone and becomes a true saviour of humanity. On this occasion, gratitude was expressed to the blood donors for the noble work done by them. They were honoured. A presentation on the importance of blood donation was given by Dr. Karmaveer Hans, Sr. DCMO, RO, Jammu.
The department of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (BT & IH), SKIMS celebrated World Blood Donors Day by conducting voluntary blood donation camp at SKIMS auditorium. Director SKIMS, said that blood donated will strengthen the resources at SKIMS and it also provides an opportunity to many to make a selfless contribution for patient care.
Cultural affairs and activities committee of the GDC Jourian in collaboration with NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of the College organized a symposium on World Blood Donors Day. The programme was organized through online mode via zoom meeting. Convener of the cultural and activities committee, Dr. Rimjhim Gupta in her opening remarks talked about theme and importance of the Day. Principal of the College, Prof. Kuldeep Raj Sharma talked in detail about myths and facts associated with blood donation.
Airports Authority of India (AAI), Civil Airport Jammu organized an oath taking ceremony for blood donation on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day. Staff of AAI, CISF, Health Department and various airlines participated in the ceremony and took pledge to donate blood voluntarily and inspire others also to do so. On this occasion Airport Director, S.K Garg encouraged the staff members for participation in the noble cause of blood donation.
The Red Ribbon Club and NSS Units of Govt. P.G College Rajouri in collaboration with J&K State Aids Prevention and Control Society celebrated World Blood Donors Day. On this occasion an intra-college poster making competition on the theme ‘Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity’ was organized.
