Workshop on ‘Mahatma Gandhi & Swachhta’ organised in JU

JAMMU, Oct 23: National Service Scheme (NSS) camps units, University of Jammu in collaboration with the Law School and Gandhi Peace Foundation, Jammu Chapter organised one day workshop on `Mahatma Gandhi, Swachhta and the Students’ here today.
The workshop was divided into two technical sessions. In his welcome address Prof Arvind Jasrotia, linked the vision of NSS ‘Not me but You’ with the vedantic text. He urged the students to take the campaign of Sawacchta in the spirit of sacrifice (yajna) as laid down in Bhagvad Gita for the purification of one’s own self as well as for the welfare of the society.
Address by the chief guest Prof Jasbir, NSS Chairperson University of Jammu apprised the students of the mission of NSS and provided the tips to students as to how they can become socially responsible citizens.
In the technical session, Dr Neelika Arora, Assistant Professor, Central University Jammu, touched upon the proactive approach rather than a reactive approach towards dealing with contemporary challenges.
Prof Vishvaraksha coordinator NSS stressed in the second session upon the objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted the role of NSS volunteers towards making a clean society.
Third session was taken up by Er PK Nanda, former Executive Engineer and at present working as Consultant with a multi national company. He delivered a lecture wherein he highlighted the role of Mahatma Gandhi in making India clean . He emphasised that the best tribute to Gandhi Ji shall be to follow his guidelines in making India clean and green.
Dr Sapna Sangra, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Sociology and co-ordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation Jammu Chapter in the 4th session oriented the students regarding open defecation and the behavioural change required in making India open defecation free by 2019, and also giving meaning to one of the UN SDG’s of eradicating open defecation.
Rizwan-us-Zaman from NGO, VOICE (Volunteers Organisation for International Cooperation and Equality) presented Documentary in the concluding session regarding Swachhta depicting the need to contribute towards the cause.
The workshop was attended by nearly hundred NSS volunteers.
