POONCH, July 18: A three-day workshop to create children literature in Gojri and Pahari languages is being organised here.
The event has been organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages at seminar hall of District Institute of Education, Poonch. Prominent writer and historian K D Maini presided over the inaugural session while Dr Javaid Rahi, chief editor of the Academy and prominent Gojri poet Lal Hussain Gohar were also in the presidium.
Dr Javaid Rahi in his address stated that the main objective of this workshop will be to create children literature in Gojri and Pahari languages. He said that around 40 poets representing different areas have been invited to participate in this three- day long event. The participants would write pieces of poetry, songs and other form in Gojri and Pahari languages, Mr Rahi said adding that this is for the first time that such type of activity is going to be held wherein, children literature is to be focused and efforts were made to create books for Gojri and Pahari children.
Dr Rahi said that Academy will publish two books in Gojri and Pahari under its approved title Paneeri and Phulwari in Gojri and Pahari respectively, wherein, the outcome of the workshop will be included.
K D Maini in his address stated that there was dearth of literature for children in all the regional languages of J&K, especially in Gojri and Pahari. He said through this event writer will focus on this important subject. He impressed upon the writers fraternity of regional languages to given proper attention and focus towards children literature. He said through this literature “we will be able to attract new generation towards Gojri and Pahari”.
Prominent among others who were present in the programme included Sheikh Azad Ahmed, Anwar Khan, Dr Haroon Rashid, Babu Noor Mohd Noor, Atta Ullah Shad, Jahagir Asgar, Ghani Pardesi, Khasam Kouli and Nighat Choudhary.
