JAMMU, Nov 6: J&K State construction of Tunnel and Four Lane Road Workers Union, which is affiliated with CITU, has asked the Leighton Company to recognize the union as representative of workmen and negotiate with them on all the issues of workers in the Chenani-Nashri tunnel project.
In a memorandum, submitted to Project Director of Leighton Company, the union has demanded immediate release of all workers and their leaders detained by police in false charges and setting up of a judicial inquiry into the recent incident of Police crackdown on agitating workers.
Reiterating its demand for reinstatement of terminated workers, the union also listed its other demands like equal pay for same work, implementation of Labour laws and allowance under the same, direct recruitment by Leighton instead of hiring workers through contractors, etc.
