Srinagar, Mar 3: Scores of workers working at a stone quarry that operates in Hardshiva Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been left to fend for themselves amid a ban imposed on all such units.
The daily wagers working there today came out and blocked Chatkak-Watlab Road as well as Sopore-Hardushiva road and urged the administration to immediately lift the ban so that they can earn their livelihood.
“We are directly or indirectly dependent on the stone quarry as we have been earning our livelihood from the same since decades; our ancestors have been working there from the last 60 years and now the govt has banned it all of a sudden,” the workers said.
The workers expressed anguish while they raised slogans against the Government as well as the mining department
The workers said that on one hand, the Government is claiming that it will provide jobs to the unemployed, but on the other, they are snatching their livelihood while as their families are also suffering.
They said that they have already suffered a lot due to the pandemic and now that the Government has closed the stone quarry, they are feeling the heat of tough circumstances.
The workers appealed to the LG administration as well as DC Baramulla to look into the matter without any further delay.
