Workers highlight demands, hold protest

Srinagar, Nov 26: As a part of nation-wide protests against the anti-worker policies of the government, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held protests across Kashmir today.
In this regard, apart from other places, a peaceful protest was organised in Anantnag which was attended by the scheme workers, construction workers, daily wagers of various departments, ASHA and Aganwadi workers.
J&K Anganwadi Worker and Helpers Union also participated in the protest and demanded to formulate of wage and regularisation policies for all temporary workers like casual, contract, Anganwadi, Asha and others and fix the minimum wage.
“The protest by the J&K Anganwadi Worker and Helpers Union was held at all the district headquarter and apart from other demands, we impress on the implementation of Minimum Wages Act along with the release of honorarium per month at par with those in other states and UTs,” said Latifa Ganai, Convenor of the Union.
The nationwide protest call was given to raise and highlight issues that these workers are facing along with cash transfer of Rs 7500 per month for all non-income taxpaying families, 10 kg free ration per person per month to all needy, expansion of MGNREGA to provide 200 days’ work in a year in rural areas at enhanced wages, stopping privatisation, massive outsourcing, casualization and contractualisations in Govt as well as in PSUs.
The strike was also enforced to impress on the formulation of immediate wage and regularisation policies for all temporary workers like Casual, contract, Anganwadi, ASHA and fixing the minimum wage not less than Rs 18000/pm till regularization.
