Workers denied MGNREGA wages, stage protest

MENDHAR, May 7: A large number of workers who have been denied wages by the Rural Development Department under various MGNREGA works for the last over one year held protest against the Government and also submitted a memorandum in the office of Sub Divisional Magistrate here today.
The poor and hapless workers, who have offered their services under various works under MGNREGA in different blocks of Mendhar tehsil assembled at Shahidi Yadgar in the middle of the town here and started protest   demonstration against the Rural Development Department. They alleged that concerned Village Level Workers (Gram Sevaks) were not paying their pending wages for the last over one year and even the matter was brought to the notice of  BDO Mendhar, Balakote and Mankote but nothing has happened.
Under the leadership of Labour Union president Abdul Majid, these workers were shouting slogans against Minister concerned Ali Mohd Sagar, Director RDD and the Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD)  Poonch. After staging protest for about an hour, later they moved to the office of  Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendhar and submitted a memorandum demanding release of their pending wages of  last one year.
They warned to intensify their agitation if the wages of poor workers were not paid within a week. They also pointed out that workers were holding protests for the last several months but the Government has turned deaf ear towards their issue.
