JAMMU, Dec 13: Construction work on four-laning of Udhampur- Ramban and Ramban-Banihal stretches of the National Highway is all set to commence by first week of next month as the geo-technical investigations as well as mobilization of men and machinery at the site by the construction companies are going on for the few days.
With the scheduled commencement of work, the National Highway Authority of India has also set the deadline for completion of four-laning of these stretches, which are part of NHAI’s flagship project of four-laning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
“May 2019 is the scheduled date of completion of four-laning of Ramban to Banihal section while December 2018 is the scheduled date of completion of four-laning of Udhampur to Chenani and Nashri to Ramban stretches, official sources informed the Excelsior.
HCC Ltd is the construction company for four-laning of Ramban to Banihal section of the National Highway while Gammon India Ltd has been allotted the job work of Udhampur-Ramban (Udhampur to Chenani and Nashri to Ramban) four-laning project.
Total project cost of four-laning from Ramban to Banihal (Kms 151 to 187) is Rs 2168 crores, including civil cost Rs 1783.42 crores while total project cost of Udhampur to Ramban is Rs 2136.97 crores (civil cost Rs 1709.99 crores).
Four laning from Ramban to Banihal section will comprise two bypasses (Seri and Makerkot), six major and 21 minor bridges, 152 culverts, seven pedestrian/cattle underpasses and sis tunnels with total length of 2967.50 meters.
Similarly, four-laning from Udhampur to Chenani (Km 67.00 to Km 89.00) and Nashri to Ramban (Km 130 to Km 151.00) will comprise one bypass (Ramban bypass), five major and 29 minor bridges, 259 culverts, one rotary, six U-turn, 11 Junctions, eight bus/truck lay byes and a 888 meter tunnel for Northbound CW at Chanderkote.
According to Dilbag Singh, Construction Head, Transport Business of HCC Ltd, mobilization of men and machinery is going on while a team of around 20 officers has already reached the site and conducting geo technical investigation. “Inventory of the structures, trees, HT wires and other utilities is being prepared for shifting/removal of the same and after the design work is finalized in next 15-20 days, the construction work will begin by first week of January 2016,” he said.
Similarly, Gammon India Ltd has also geared up for commencement of the construction work in next few days as the survey work by the company is nearing completion. As the weather improves after intense cold in next three months, the work will be in full swing by the forthcoming March, said R P Singh, Project Director of the NHAI.
As per the survey, 233 structures need to be removed at Seri, Marog, Ramsu, Sujmatna and Chambalwas for four-laning of Ramban to Banihal section while 469 structures are to be removed for widening of the National Highway from Udhampur to Ramban.
Pertinent to mention that widening of Udhampur-Ramban and Ramban to Banihal stretches is part of the NHAI’s flagship project of four-laning Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The NHAI has divided the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway four-laning project into sub-projects, which include widening of Srinagar-Banihal road (67.7 kms), Qazigund-Banihal road (15.25 kms), Ramban-Banihal road (36 kms), Udhampur-Ramban road (43 kms) and widening of Jammu-Udhampur road (65 kms). The stretch between Udhampur-Ramban has been further divided into Udhampur-Chenani road, Chenani-Nashri tunnel (12 kms) and Nashri-Ramban road.
