SRINAGAR, Nov 18: Opposition PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today alleged that the BJP was following a divisive agenda in Jammu and Kashmir and asserted that his party with people’s support would not allow it to succeed.
“Jammu and Kashmir is today facing an entirely new political scenario with BJP trying to increase its presence in the Assembly through a divisive agenda that is based on communal polarisation and sectarian differences,” Sayeed said.
He was addressing a series of election rallies in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The former Chief Minister said the BJP won the three seats in Lok Sabha elections last time by promoting communal polarisation and now it is planning to create sectarian division even within the Muslim community as has been given out by its “poll strategist” through media reports.
“Such a negative strategy is harmful for any society but for a sensitive State like Jammu and Kashmir this could be out-rightly disastrous,” Sayeed said.
He said the PDP sees the upcoming elections as an opportunity not only to reduce the trust deficit between Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country but to establish new bonding between the communities and regions within the State.
Sayeed said the State subject laws are sacrosanct for the people as these safeguard interests of all the regions equally.
He said PDP won’t allow dilution of these laws and cautioned that any effort to fiddle with the special status of Jammu and Kashmir will have disastrous consequences.
“People of Jammu and Kashmir need to rise above sectarian division and communal polarisation to give a decisive and inclusive mandate to PDP to safeguard the special constitutional position of the State and ensure equitable development of all regions and sub-regions,” he said.
Sayeed said the PDP remains unflinchingly firm on resisting this divisive agenda of BJP and its allies as it defeated the National Conference and Congress in their designs to disempower the people of the State.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir are politically conscious to understand the changed political equations of the state and the designs of various divisive elements,” he said.
Sayeed said whereas NC-Congress parties have collapsed as political organisations, the contest now is directly between PDP and BJP.
