NEW DELHI: Bollywood actress Kajol says it is a lovely time to be in the film industry as an actor does not have to be conventional anymore.
Talking, Kajol, who was in the capital to promote her latest film ‘VIP 2’, which will feature her alongside Tamil superstar Dhanush , said, ” I think it is fabulous that the audience has come out to appreciate films as a whole, more than as women oriented, men oriented, script oriented.
So it is the wonderful time for actors to be in the film industry because you don’t have to be conventional anymore. There is no conventional type in the industry that can succeed.”
Kajol, who is returning to Kollywood after 20 years, said that today success is not based on a conventional or certain role model types. “So it is a lovely time to be in the film industry. I think we gonna have fabulous movies coming in the future,”she said.
About her journey till now in the industry, Kajol said she is the most underworked actor in the Bollywood. “I think I had a great time working in the industry. It still feels a good time which is why I am still interested in doing work.
The secret of my energy is that I am still not bored of it, I enjoy my work and I do films that work for me on personal level,” the actress said. Kajol said that she loved the character of ‘Vasundhara’ that she is playing in the movie.
“Vasundhara is an ideal person, because we all at some point of time want that our identity is not linked to a label of a Ms, Mr, female, male, mother, sister, daughter, VP or CEO.
So we want our identity to be known to us if not to anyone else. Vasundhara is like that. She knows that she doesnt fits to her father’s name, Mr or Ms or any gender tag.. If you throw me to the wolves, I will come back leading the pack”.
So that is Vasundhara. Vasundhara is a strong-minded character and so is Raghuvaran (Dhanush). Both are very strong characters and have clear beliefs about what they stand for,” she said. Kajol said that working with Dhanush was a terrific experience for her.
“Dhanush is a fine actor. He has written wonderful screenplay and dialogues for the film. It was a pleasure to work with him,” she added. The actress, who is set to launch her home production said, “My home production is finally starting in September, so I am very excited about it. We will release a project in 2018.” Asked whether Kajol and Shahrukh, the most loved on screen couple , will be seen on the big screen, the actress laughed and said,”I hope so. Shahrukh and I have a five year plan. So its just two years since ‘Dilwale’, three years are still left for the next movie.” When asked about her comeback in the Tamil film industry after 20 years, the ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ actress said there is a little pressure regarding how audience will respond to her performance. ”Everybody has been so welcoming and supremely positive that makes me feel good but pressure is there because I am wondering whether I have done a good job or not. Its a different language so, there is this little bit of apprehension in me. But after seeing my portions in the Tamil language you can see I have done a decent job,” the 42-year-old actress said. In ‘Velaiilla Pattadhari 2’ known as ‘VIP 2’, a sequel to the 2014 Tamil blockbuster ‘VIP’, Kajol plays a suave and conniving business woman named ‘Vasundhara’. A bilingual action-comedy drama ‘VIP 2’, directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth, will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The cast includes Dhanush, Amala Paul, Vivek, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani returning from the first film. Dhanush, besides acting, is also co-producer and has written the story and dialogues for the film. The movie is slated to release on July 27. (AGENCIES)
