NEW DELHI: Keeping the matter of women’s safety at par with humanity, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that safety of women should come first and was even more important than safeguarding the humanity.
The Home Minister said this at a programme half-Marathon “Run for Laadli” here. He also administered the pledge to protect ‘Laadli’ the girl child, and also flagged off the half marathon.
The pledge also included raising voice against domestic violence and other crimes against women and gender inequality. ”There is a need to bring a change in the mindset regarding women in our country,” he said adding that the women were the pillar of the society. “The stronger they become, stronger will be the foundation of society,” he said.
”Women’s safety and awareness regarding it should also be spread through education while values should be incorporated regarding the same,” he said and praised the efforts of Laadli Foundation and Delhi Police for this initiative.
The Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik who was also present at the occasion said that preventing crime against women was a very important concern. He said, ”awareness generation among towards women safety the society is a very crucial thing and such programs are a good”, he added saying ” women safety begins at home.”
An initiative of the Delhi Police and Laadli Foundation, “RUN for LAADLI” is to spread awareness about gender equality and the need to stop crimes against women.
This also includes enrolling 15000 unemployed boys belonging to slums to provide skill development training through the skill India programme. Thousands of people including school children, people from different walks of life took part in run which was flagged off from the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium here on Sunday morning. (AGENCIES)
