This has reference to the article ‘Mere 3 percent women in J&K police’ published in the Daily Excelsior some time back. The author has highlighted an important issue which is going to benefit women folk in a big way. The presence of women police officers in police post will allow the women victims to express themselves in a free and frank atmosphere. Otherwise, they feel embarrassed and harassed in presence of male officers. The raped and sexually assaulted are the worst sufferers.
The Government must appoint these police officers on priority basis. It will surely bring justice to the aggrieved, and will certainly be a step towards empowerment of women in the State.
