Women kept waiting for Laparo-camp team

Excelsior Correspondent
Rajouri, Mar 28:  About 50  odd women along with their family members from the far-flung areas of  Kandi and Budhal kept waiting at Kotranka hospital for the team of doctors from Rajouri  for a much publicized Laparo camp to be held today but no body came from District Hospital and the agitated hapless poor villagers had to move back to their homes.
The Health Department had planned to hold a Laparo camp at Kotranka Hospital and for this, the  Block Medical Officer through his team of Health Department including FMPHW/ Asha workers etc had conducted extensive awareness campaign and publicity for the ligation. The Asha workers motivated many women of the area and they were even told that Government would provide  Rs 600 per woman and free medicines.
As per  given schedule the people from far off areas and some even covering over 5 to 10 km on- foot, reached Kotranka Hospital at 10 am. They kept waiting for the team of doctors from District Hospital even up to 4 pm.  They  were then asked by the BMO Dr Nissar Choudhary to move back to their homes as the camp had been postponed. The  got agitated over the response and even abused the BMO and others. They claimed that all of them were befooled and made to sit through out the day. If the team was not prepared to come, why such wider publicity was given. They should have been intimated for the cancellation of the camp.
The BMO Kotranka Dr Nissar when contacted avoided to comment, however, CMO Rajouri Dr Rajiv Sharma said that he was at Nowshera in connection with an inquiry today. He came to know about the matter through DyCEO at around 1.30 pm that one Gynaecologist  was on leave while another was handling emergency case at hospital. Therefore, the team could not go there. The CMO said that he has decided to hold camp on Monday there and will personally tender apology to the people.
