JAMMU, June 9: State spokesperson of J&K BJP Rajni Sethi has urged the administration to create an awareness about Sakhi scheme, a Centre Government 24×7 helpline to aid women in domestic violence cases.
Rajni Sethi accompanied by BJP State convener of Auyshmaan Bharat Scheme, Kunti Jasrotia and BJP Mahila Morcha activist, Dr. Avni Pachnanda while addressing a press conference rued that although the scheme has been launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi led Central Government a few years back, still nobody knows about it due to lack of awareness and passive attitude by the concerned department.
She said that it is unfortunate that despite the golden leaf scheme “SAKHI” one stop centre, intended to support the women affected by violence in private and public places is left only on papers as the women across the Union Territory has no knowledge about the scheme.
Rajni Sethi, who visited the remote areas of UT of J&K found that domestic violence against women took a surge during lockdown with no help from the scheme since not many are aware of the helpline number “181” and the action taken against those who indulge in violence.
Rajni Sethi wanted a proposal publication awareness opening of various helpline number including 181 Sakhi one stop centre since majority of cases go unreported for the fear of social stigma.
She demanded that the administration should come into action and a new Women’s Commission should be formed.
Various OSC’s centers with various helpline number should be set up in the far flung areas of UT and also more staff should be hired thereby giving employment to the core section and protection to the silent section.
She also demanded that many other unheard schemes launched by the Centre should be implemented by the administration of UT so that the local public gets benefit of the same.
She said that proper awareness campaign in this regard with the activism of the concerned department is the need of the hour so as the needy women could use this service which can save their lives.
