Women empowerment key to growth of society: Naeem Akhtar

JAMMU, Apr 24: Highlighting the importance of women empowerment and safety, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar said that their education is vital for growth of the society and shaping the future of the nation.
The Minister was speaking on the occasion of Annual Day cum Prize distribution function of Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Naeem Akhtar was the chief guest while Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture, Priya Sethi was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The Minister said that educated women needs to stand up against all odds and discrimination with a bold face.
He stress that women have a larger role to play in building a civilized society and urged the students that as prospective mothers they need to take it as a challenge and re-establish the position of woman as the most important creature of God.
The Minister complimented students and faculty members for achieving new heights in various fields and congratulated them for climbing the rung of success in academic as well as other activities.
Earlier, the Ministers along with other dignitaries released five annual Newsletters namely E-Odyssey by IQAC, Quest by Science Club, IRIS by Red Ribbon Club, Humanity by Red Cross Unit, Symphony by Language club, Horizon Newsletter of the campus and Research Reporter by Research Committee of the College.
Principal of the College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, in her welcome address read out the annual report of the college. She highlighted various achievements made by the College in different areas and also the unprecedented leaps the institution has made to achieve success in all fields.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students on the occasion.
Later, the Ministers gave away prizes to all-round best students in various categories including University positions in academics, sports, literary, NSS, NCC and cultural activities.
Director colleges, T. A. Kawoosa, Principals of various colleges, Teachers, parents and a large number of students attended the function.
