Woman seeks justice

JAMMU, Aug 23: Fed up with the slow pace of investigation, a Government teacher has appealed to the higher-ups in the Police Department to take action against her husband for physically assaulting her.
Addressing a press conference, Manju Bala, a Government teacher, said that she got married to Government teacher Devinder Kumar in 2006.
Later, her husband started demanding money, gratuity, jewellery and even assaulted her physically, she said, adding that her husband also threatened her of dire consequence if his demands area not fulfilled.
“I lodged a police complaint against my husband at Sarwal police post, but investigations are going on at snail’s pace”, she added.
Manju appealed to the higher-ups in the Police Department to take action against her husband by arresting him.
President, Rural Women Foundation, Sunita Sharma, Chairperson Heena Jamwal, Harbinder Kour, Jyoti Bala, Geeta Dogra and Preety Chodhary were also present.
When contacted, SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Ashwani Kumar said that a case under Section 325 (grievous injury with a blunt object) stands registered against Devinder Kumar and asserted that the person will be behind the bars soon.
