Addressing media persons, SP Rural Jammu, Brijesh Kumar Sharma said the accused, identified as Shallu Devi and Bhanu Partap Singh, killed 33-year-old Naresh Chander son of Achru of Bhaderwah in the Seora area.
According to him, the incident came to light on April 7, 2024, when police were alerted to a supposed road accident near the Revenue Complex, Gole Gujral, Jammu, after the victim’s body was found at Gandhi Nagar Hospital.
Initially, the SP Rural Jammu said, the case was registered under sections 279, 337, and 304A of the IPC for causing death by negligence.
However, inconsistencies in Shallu Devi’s statements during the investigation led by ASI Vinod Kumar raised suspicions, he said.
Further investigation revealed the illicit relationship between Shallu Devi and Bhanu Partap Singh, the police officer said.
Upon questioning, Bhanu Partap, who works as a trainee at Gandhi Nagar Hospital, confessed to the murder plot, stating that they had killed Naresh Chander at an abandoned plot at Seora area and then staged the accident, said Brijesh Kumar Sharma, SP Rural Jammu.
Following the confession, police ammended the charges to include murder under section 302 of the IPC, he said.
Further investigation into the case is underway as more evidence is being collected, added the police officer.
