SRINAGAR, Jan 21: Police have solved the murder case of two infants by their mother at south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and its investigation revealed that she suspected her husband of being in an extra-marital affair and ‘wanted to teach him a lesson’.
A police spokesman said the police at Kokernag area received information regarding the murder of two infants namely years Imran Wagay (4) and his sister Chandni (2) whose mother was also found in injured condition at Khretti Larnoo village.
“In pursuance to this information, an FIR Number 05/16 under section 302, 307, 452 PRC was registered in Police Station Kokernag and the investigation was taken up by a special investigating team (SIT),” he said, adding: “During the course of investigation it came to fore that the infants were killed mercilessly with a knife by their mother Ruqia Bano wife of Tariq Ahmad Wagay.”
After killing her children she attempted to commit suicide with the same weapon of offence, the police said. “It further surfaced that she wanted to teach a lesson to her husband by killing the children as she suspected that her husband had an extra marital affair with a woman in her neighborhood,” the spokesman added.
He said the further investigation is going on and SIT is meticulously looking for evidence and reasons which lead her to commit such a heinous crime, which sends shivers down the spin.
