JAMMU, May 30: A woman was killed, while her son received serious injuries when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by an auto (load-carrier) in Jagti area, falling under the jurisdiction of Nagrota police station. However, relatives of the deceased along with locals blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for couple of hours in protest against NHAI.
As per police sources, a woman was killed and her son received serious injuries, when the motorcycle (JKO2BF-5972) they were riding on collided head-on with an auto (load carrier) bearing registration number JKO2BD-1167 in Jagti area of Nagrota..
On getting information, police party from Nagrota police station reached to the spot and rushed the injured identified as Mohammad Ali to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where his condition was stated to be out of danger, when reports last came.
The body of the deceased identified as Mukhtyara Bibi (40), wife of Hussain Mohammad of Dami, Nagrota has been shifted to mortuary of GMC Hospital for postmortem, which will be conducted tomorrow.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Nagrota police station and manhunt has been launched to nab the auto driver, who escaped from the spot.
Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased along with locals blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for couple of hours near Jagti in protest against NHAI.
Due to protest, hundreds of vehicles including passenger and commercial vehicles got stranded.
The protestors alleged that there are no proper diversion signals on the newly constructed bye-pass road by NHAI, which results into accidents on daily basis.
On getting information, senior police officials including SDPO Khalik Choudhary rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
On the assurance to take up the matter with the concerned authorities, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the National Highway late night.
