JAMMU, May 4: A 21-year-old woman from Surat district of Gujarat was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the basement of a hotel in the Satwari area of Jammu district today, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Kiran Kumari, wife of Bheru Lal of Haldru Kamrej in Surat.
According to officials, she had gone missing from her residence in Gujarat and was recently traced from the Chenani area of Udhampur district by a team of Gujarat Police with the assistance of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The woman, along with the police team, had reached Jammu on Sunday night and was staying in a hotel near the airport as they were scheduled to board a flight to Gujarat.
However, in the early hours of Monday, she reportedly attempted to flee from the police team and slipped in the basement of the hotel, resulting in her death.
The body was shifted for post-mortem, and after completion of legal formalities, it was handed over to the Gujarat Police.
Police have initiated further investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
