KATHUA, Jan 9: The cold wave and low temperature claimed the life of a woman in Bani tehsil of the Kathua district. The deceased was identified as Banti Devi, wife of Pritam Singh, resident Sadrota of Tehsil Billawar.
Reports reaching here said that due to snow fall in Bani tehsil the temperature has gone down and woman fell ill of chilly cold. She was taken to nearby Health Centre for treatment. But she breathed her last on the way.
Meanwhile, members of a family had a narrow escape when a house collapsed during intervening night at village Sadrota. The house belonged to Krishan Chand, son of Hari Chand of Sadrota village in Block Duggian. The incident took place when the family was sleeping and a portion of house sliding collapsed. Immediately the family members ran away of house to save their lives and their timely action saved them.
