JAMMU, Jan 9: In continuation to its week-long anti-encroachment drive, Jammu Municipal Corporation with the help of civil and police administration conducted a major anti-encroachment drive on highway from Digiana Ashram to Satwari Chowk.
The drive was conducted by a team of enforcement wing of JMC under the supervision of SDM Jammu South, Bala Sahib Srikant Suse. The officers/officials of traffic police besides SHOs of police stations Gandhi Nagar and Satwari were also present during the drive.
During the drive, the main focus was laid on encroachments on the by-lane of the Highway from Digiana Ashram towards Satwari Chowk as the tube was completely encroached by the people by installing rehries, raising makeshift shops and parking vehicles.
The whole operation remained peaceful and all the illegal structures or illegal extension of the shops were demolished with the help of a JCB. The JMC also seized a large quantity of goods displayed by the shopkeepers outside their shops. Besides, the traffic police seized many vehicles parked illegally in the by-lane.
The SDM Jammu South said that the objective of this anti-encroachment drive was to ensure free flow of traffic on highways as at several places, the by-lanes, which is meant for two-wheelers, have been occupied by the rehriwalas or are being used by the people for parking their vehicles.
