Woman dies during childbirth, family alleges doctors’ negligence

UDHAMPUR, Aug 18: Following death of a pregnant woman and the infant during delivery of child at District Hospital Udhampur, this morning, relatives and family members of the deceased held a strong protest against Medical staff of Batote for their alleged negligence.
Reports said that deceased Pooja Devi (23), wife of Ashok Kumar, resident of Batote in Ramban District, was late last night referred by Batote Hospital to District Hospital Udhampur after death of fetus was observed. However, soon after reaching at Udhampur Hospital, the mother also died.
Relatives and family members of the deceased alleged that the woman had died due to alleged negligence of doctors and other medical staff at Batote Hospital, who did not handle the case properly. They held a protest demonstration alleging that the said lady died due to negligence and carelessness of concerned medical staff and doctors.
The situation diffused after ACR Udhampur, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral and SHO Udhampur Raghuvir Singh along with senior doctors reached the spot and pacified the protestors. They assured legal action against the erring medical staff and doctors after holding proper enquiry.
On this assurance, the agitating family members agreed to take body of the deceased to their home after completion of all the legal formalities.
