Woman dies, 27 injured in Rajouri bus accident

RAJOURI, Apr 9: A woman was killed while at least 27 others injured, two of them seriously when a passenger bus   skidded off the road and fell into nearly 100 feet deep gorge,  about 24 kms from here on Budhal Road today.
The mishap took place at around 10.30 am today when the  ill-fated Poonch route bus No. JK02AD/4425 was on way to Jammu from Sugari in Mahore, via Budhal and Rajouri. As the vehicle reached at Danna Rehan, the driver lost control on the vehicle at a sharp curve and it landed into nearly 100 feet deep gorge.
While the driver escaped from the spot after mishap, the locals of the area besides Army and police men rushed to the spot for rescue operation. All the injured were removed in civil and Army vehicles while an elderly woman, namely Reshma Bi (75), wife of Roshan Din of Tuli Bana in Reasi succumbed  while being shifted to Rajouri Hospital.
A seriously injured villager, Nazir Ahmed (65), son of Babu, resident of Malikote ( Mahore)  was referred to  Govt Medical College Hospital Jammu while another serious victim, Rafaqat (30), son of Mohd Shafi hailing from Mandir Galla in Budhal was removed to Military Hospital Rajouri.
The other 16 injured persons were admitted to District Hospital Rajouri where several senior civil and police officers including Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and MLA Darhal Ch Zulfikar paid visit to monitor treatment being provided to them by the team of doctors. Nine victims including driver were provided treatment at Kotranka Hospital. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. The driver Rakesh Kumar, son of Dwarka Nath, resident Kalakote has  been arrested by police.
