JAMMU, Apr 29: Putting a big question mark over the tall claims of the Health Department authorities about providing health care facilities to the people at their door steps, a lady hailing from tehsil Akhnoor delivered a baby in a bus near Directorate of Health Services, here.
As per sources, a lady hailing from a tehsil Akhnoor visited Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor with labour pain. The doctors directed the family members of the lady to shift her to SMGS Hospital as her condition was in complex mode.
“No ambulance was provided to the lady for shifting to SMGS Hospital and she along with her family members boarded a private bus”, sources said, adding that as the lady suffered severe labour pain near Directorate of Health Services complex, a doctor, whose identity is not ascertained yet, reached the spot and carried out the delivery in the bus that too in unhygienic conditions.
The lady and the baby were later shifted to SMGS Hospital, where both are safe and responding to the treatment as per the statement of hospital authorities.
On the one hand, Health Department is claiming to improve the services by providing health care facilities to the people on their door steps on the other hand the doctors deputed in the SDH Akhnoor are referring the patients to SMGS Jammu for treatment that too by not providing ambulance facilities.
When contacted, Director Health Services Dr B S Pathania admitted that the delivery took place in a bus.  “There were two ambulances in SDH Akhnoor but had gone to shift the patients. Had the family waited for 15 minutes, they would have been provided ambulance”, Dr Pathania added.
