JAMMU, Dec 20: Quleen Kaur Bijral, resident of Jammu & Kashmir and an alumnus of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has successfully launched her first horror/fantasy novel titled “The Witch Some Witch” published by the renowned Partridge Publishing, a Penguin Company. The novel as a witty prose of Memory, Revenge, Love and Crime, is a chilling story about a murder in self-defense, dishonour of a hapless girl, a town reeling from riots and a forced sacrifice for a witch. This book is a witty satire on the crimes against the helpless. It is a story of a girl who was once assaulted most viciously by those who are supposed to protect the law of the land. Buried, left for dead and forgotten, she runs towards a far-off town to forget her morbid past. On reaching the place, she is attacked by the history of the town- its land of riots, partition and power politics. What mesmerizes her to stay is the forbidden secrecy of the witch, some witch which like a magic trick delights her and helps her forget how ghastly reality can be.
The novel is not a pedantic or a didactic narrative but a gripping original story told in fiction. Quleen creates a mesmerizing mosaic of magic and reality wherein the vivid characters are delightfully passionate even when nervously chaotic.
Quleen Kaur Bijral known by the pen name Quleen O Queen is a writer, journalist, musician and an avid lawn tennis player. As an alumnus of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Quleen clinched first position in her Masters and recently submitted her doctoral thesis.
