UDHAMPUR, Aug 29: The Wireless Operator of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur was killed in a road accident on the National Highway near Sangoor Chowk, here late last night.
According to the police report, Head Constable Vijay Kumar (49), son of Kesar Chand, resident of Delah Udhampur, posted as Wireless Operator in the office of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, was hit by an unidentified vehicle late last evening near Sangoor Chowk.
Locals and Police rushed to the spot and took the injured person to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors declared him as brought dead.
After completing medical and legal formalities, the body of the deceased cop was today handed over to the family members.
A case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding driver of the unidentified vehicle involved in the accident.
Meanwhile, deceased Vijay Kumar was paid last tribute amid Police honour at Police Line Udhampur where District Development Commissioner Saloni Rai, DIG Suleman Chowdhary, SSP Dr Vinod Kumar and other officers were present.
