JAMMU, Aug 1: Centre for Environment Education in association with CEET and Department of Environmental Sciences Jammu University today launched WIPRO supported ‘Earthian’ Project in Jammu and Kashmir State today.
Dr Pramod Sharma, Program Director CEE and Ms Arathi from WIPRO Bangalore were the resource persons. Prof Anil K Raina, Head Department of Environmental Sciences was the chief guest and Assistant Professor Deepika Salathia was the guest of honour.
More than 80 teachers from Government and private schools from all the districts of Jammu attended the one day training orientation program on implementation of ‘Earthian’ project in the schools.
Prof Deepika Salathia welcomed the participants and resource persons. Prof Raina while speaking said that suchlike capacity building workshops for the teachers will go a long way in improving the quality of environment education in schools.
Dr C M Sethan, expert environmentalist while welcoming the participants said that in J&K 5500 Government schools have been registered as Eco Club schools under NGC scheme of Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, since 2001. In addition 8000 schools are registered under Paryavaran Mitra Hand Print Project for the last more than three years. These schools have been participating in various environment activities.
Dr Pramod Sharma said CEE Ahmedabad is a Centre of Excellence of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and is engaged with environmental education and education for sustainable development since 1984 and school has been a primary focus of its activities.
Ms Arathi, Sustainability Consultant WIPRO while speaking informed that CEE is partnership with WIPRO involves the Government / private Paryavaran Mitra network schools. For last two years the partnership focused on the States of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP and Chhatisgarh. She said that from this year J&K has been added to this project. She said best performing schools in the initiative are given a cash award of Rs one lakh and expert support for three years.
Vote of thanks was presented by Arathi. She thanked Director School Education and all CEOs for their cooperation and deputation of teachers for attending the workshop.
