RAMBAN, Dec 29: Directorate of Tourism, Jammu has organized a three day Winter Carnival 2020 at Patnitop to attract tourists to the scenic hill station in the ongoing snowfall season and revive the tourism activities in the area.
The Carnival coincides with new year celebrations amid snowfall season at Patnitop which is a major attraction for the tourists.
The event is a confluence of Dogri art, ethnic cuisines, cultural performances and fun activities to engage the tourists and showcase indigenous culture with other engaging activities during new year celebrations.
Director Tourism, Jammu R.K Katoch along with IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh inaugurated the Winter Carnival today.
DIG Ramban-Doda-Kishtwar range, Abdul Jabbar and SSP Ramban, Haseeb-Ur-Rehman also graced the occasion with other dignitaries.
The festival started with Dogri Kud Dance and Geetru performances amongst other engaging performances by local artists.
The main attraction of the inaugural day was musical evening along with song, dance & live DJ performance.
A handout of organisers stated that Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) intends to showcase local art, culture, artefacts, ethnic food to the tourists visiting snow-clad Patnitop hills during the event and have a wholesome experience of music, dance, fun activities and adventure indulgences.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by CEO PDA, Sachin Dev Singh Jamwal, Dy. Director Tourism (Jammu), Anil Kumar Chandail, ADT NHW-Batote, Dr. Umesh Shan amongst other officers/officials of the Tourism Department, District Administration and PDA.
Large number of tourists from all over India especially UP, Gujarat, Kolkata, Punjab and Karnataka thronged the main meadow at Patnitop and enjoyed the activities.
There is huge rush of tourists at Patnitop and tourist footfall is increasing which may continue for the coming days.
The event is being managed by the Tourism Department while observing and following all the protocols which are in place regarding COVID-19.
