JAMMU, Mar 11: A liquor shop was today allegedly set ablaze by a mob in RS Pura area of city outskirts.
According to a police sources, around 100 to 150 people of village Badyal Brahmana assembled this morning in front of a wine shop in the area and put it on fire. He said that the villagers were angry over the opening of the shop in the village and had been demanding over last four-five years that the shop be closed or shifted outside the village.
Sources said that before the police reached the spot, the protestors had fled from the spot. However, the fire was controlled within one hour after a fire tender reached the spot and doused the flames. “No one was injured in the fire”, they added.
The sources further told that senior officer of the police also reached the spot and took stock of the situation. “An FIR in this connection was registered at police station RS Pura and investigations started”, Sourav Prasher, SDPO RS Pura, said, adding, the loss occurred due to fire is being ascertained.
