Dr Jain among 150 VHP, BD activists arrested

JAMMU, June 5: On day third of what VHP calls its Amarnath Bachao Yatra Andolan over 150 activists led by National spokesman of the organization, Dr Surindr Jain were arrested for violating Section 144 soon after VHP declared that its first phase of Andolan ended at Jammu and it will now launch the second phase of nationwide agitation from New Delhi.
“The Jammu Andolan was a beginning as it was a launching pad and this will be now followed by a nationwide agitation” said Dr Jain while addressing the protestors at Parade here.
Soon after the irate activists of BD and VHP thronged Parade the slogans Bum Bum Bole and Jai Baba Amarnath rent the air. The enraged Shiv Bhakts also performed Shiv Tandav (dance) and torched the effigy of Government like yesterday to register their strong protest on imposing curbs on Amarnath yatra since 2008.
Besides Dr Jain others who were arrested included VHP vice president Prabhu Dayal Gupta, its other leaders Dr Sham Lal and Dr V K Gupta, Nand Kishore Misra and Neeraj Donaria of BD.
Earlier addressing the BD and VHP activists in front of Brahman Sabha at Parade Dr Jain declared the winding up of first phase of Amarnath Bachao Andolan at Jammu and said that all VHP and BD activists will move to New Delhi in the evening to launch second phase of agitation.
Later talking to reporters after his release in the afternoon Dr Jain said with the Amarnath Bachao Andolan launched by VHP the Government was left with no alternative but to run the yatra for two months from next year.
After reaching Union Capital the day after tomorrow, they will call on President Mrs Prathiba Devi Singh Patil and demand recall of Governor N N Vohra for his negative role on yatra issue, he added.
He said besides the delegation will also call on Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and Home Minister, P Chidambaram and submit memorandums to them and expose the Shrine Board which he alleged was responsible for 2008 land row agitation and creating a gulf between Jammu and Kashmir regions.
