LUCKNOW, May 15: As newly inducted ministers of the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet await portfolio allocation, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday asked whether the slips of ministries to be allocated to them would come from the “top”, an apparent reference to the ruling BJP’s top brass.
Two cabinet ministers and four state ministers were inducted into the Yogi Adityanath 2.0 ministry and two state ministers were promoted to independent charge on May 10.
This was the second expansion of the Yogi 2.0 ministry. The first one took place in March 2024, two years after the government’s formation.
In a post on X in Hindi, Yadav said, “After the names of the ministers in UP, will the slips allocating their portfolios also come from the ‘top’? The real reason behind the delay in the allocation of ministries is that the double engines of commission and earning are colliding with one another.”
“The new ministers, who got their positions after a long wait, are merely sitting in the spectators’ gallery, watching the ball being tossed back and forth,” he said.
Yadav said the people of Uttar Pradesh have resolved to keep a vigilant watch over whatever ministries and departments are allotted to the new ministers to ensure that they do not fill their pockets.
“Now, the public will stop BJP members from looting their tax money. The corrupt BJP has already destroyed every department responsible for curbing corruption. The public now feels that justice can be obtained only through the medium of social media and citizen journalism,” the former chief minister said.
The BJP government knows that this is the last time it is in power and that is why its members are desperate to amass wealth by any means possible, Yadav claimed.
