JAMMU, Oct 2: The Wildlife Week celebration kick started involving school children, teachers, villagers and NGOs in programmes like symposium, discussions, painting competitions in Jammu region on October 2, from various locations including Manda Deer Park and Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Jammu, Marwah in Kishtwar and Mahu in Ramban.
An impressive gathering of school children, teachers and Wildlife officials participated in the programme at Manda Deer Park and Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary where, to make them aware about the wildlife species present in the protected areas of Jammu province, the school children were shown many wild animal, bird and reptile species. This was followed by a visit to Nature Interpretation Centre at Manda and an impressive cultural programme highlighting the importance of conservation of wildlife. Earlier, in the morning many children from different school participated in painting competition at Manda.
The Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu Region Tahir Shawl presided over the function while BL Parimoo, president Environment Awareness Forum was the guest of honour. The programme was organized by the Wildlife Warden Jammu Shahzad Chowdhary, Amit Sharma, Wildlife Warden Jambu Zoo presented the welcome address
The Regional Wildlife Warden while addressing highlighted the objectives of observing Wildlife Week and urge the participants particularly the children to adopt eco friendly life style. He informed that the Wildlife Protection Department is conducting week long awareness programmes spreading all over the State to create awareness among people for conservation of wildlife, habitat and environment in general.
Parimoo also interacted with the students on issues of conservation & preservation of wild fauna and flora. Shahzad Chowdhary spoke about exposing students to the native flora and fauna with regard to conservation of wildlife habitat. Some participating students were also given prizes.
