LADAKH, Dec 28: People of Kargil helped the Wildlife Department to rescue an injured Ibex which was wandering in the Baroo Chok area.
The Ibex was rescued and was shifted to Wildlife Office Bagh Khomenie where it was given medical treatment as it has an injured leg.
Wildlife Ranger Bashir Ahmad told that the reason for a wild animal to wander in the village may be wild attack by Snow Leopard or shortage of food in the mountains. He further said that in this case, it seems to be attack by a Snow Leopard during which Ibex escaped got injured but escaped. The Wildlife Ranger told that after proper treatment the Ibex will be freed in its own habitat.
In past some time, such wildlife wandering in human habitats has become frequent in Kargil and people of Kargil were seen rescuing them and helping the Wildlife Department.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kargil spread in 14,000 Sq Km area has only two permanent staff in Wildlife Department and 20 casual workers and it is a very big challenge to cater to such a vast area with crunch of staff. There is also shortage of a proper rescue centre.
