NEW DELHI, Jan 14: Wheat extended its rising streak for the fifth straight day with prices rising by another Rs 70 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on hectic demand from flour mills against tight supply.
However, other grains including rice basmati held steady in thin trade.
Traders said besides strong demand from flour mills, tight stocks position on fall in supplies from producing belts mainly wheat prices higher.
In the national capital, wheat desi and wheat dara (for mills) surged by Rs 70 each to Rs 2,820-3,120 and Rs 2,190-2,200 per quintal, respectively. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 2,210-2,240 per 90 kg.
Maida and sooji also settled higher at Rs 1,250-1,260 and Rs 1,290-1,300 from previous levels of Rs 1,175-1,185 and Rs 1,225-1,250 per 50 kg, respectively in line with wheat trend.
