Wheat edges up on flour mills buying

NEW DELHI, Aug 8:  In restricted activity, wheat prices edged higher by Rs 5 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on pick up in buying by flour mills.
However, other grains including rice basmati moved in a tight range on lack of worthwhile activity, settled around previous levels.
Traders said increased buying by flour mills to meet rising demand led to rise in wheat prices.
Meanwhile, government yesterday imposed 10 per cent import duty on wheat till March 2016 to curb shipments and liquidate poor quality grains lying in FCI godowns.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) inched up by Rs 5 to Rs 1,575-1,580 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 1,580-1,585 per 90 kg. Sooji also seen in demand and climbed to Rs 1,030-1,040 from previous close of Rs 1,000-1,010 per 50 kg.
