West Bengal resident among 3 arrested with poppy straw, intoxicant tablets

JAMMU, Nov 7: Bagh-e-Bahu, Panjtirthi and Arnia Police arrested three drug peddlers including a West Bengal resident along with 108 kilograms poppy straw and 201 intoxicant tablets.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Bagh-e-Bahu Police Station led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Sharma laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB06H-8697.
During checking, police team recovered 100 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Gurmeet Singh, son of Jaspal Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab.
Meanwhile, a team from Panjtirthi Police Post led by SI Vinod Kumar laid a naka and intercepted a pedestrian, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police team recovered 8 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Tariq Hassan, son of Mohd Tamij-ud-Din of West Bengal. On search, 8 Kgs. poppy straw like substance was recovered from his possession.
In another similar incident, a team from Arnia Police Station apprehended a person along with 210 intoxicant tablets.
The apprehended person has been identified as Ravi Kumar, son of Labha Ram of Trewa.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered at Bagh-e-Bahu, Pacca Danga and Arnia Police Stations and investigation started.
