LEH, Dec 30: The weeklong Ladakhi New Year (Losar) celebrations commenced across Ladakh.
The celebrations begun with Galdan Namchot–an auspicious event celebrated to observe the birthday and the Buddha-hood of Je-Tsongkhapa, the Tibetan saint-scholar and founder of the Gelukspa School of Tibetan Buddhism in the 14th century. Lamps “Chotmey” were lighted in every house and Monasteries across Ladakh.
On the first day of Losar, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) President Tsewang Thinles in presence of huge gathering unfurled the Buddhist Prayer Flag “Tarchen” amidst chanting “Kay Kay So So Largyalo” to infuse new hope and spirit among enthusiastic gathering marks the Losar celebration across Ladakh.
As a customary, people visit each other house to greet “Losar La Tashis Deleks, Losar La Jalskit” praying for longevity and prosperity. The entire region was in the festivity mood to celebrate the Losar which is an auspicious occasion where people forget their rift and differences to celebrate the occasion with zeal and enthusiasm.
Enthusiastic people in large number in their best traditional costumes joined each other to celebrate the annul fest with great pomp and shows across Ladakh.
LBA Youth Wing President Rinchen Namgyal, LBA Executive members, LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa, Executive Councilor for Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Executive Councilor for Animal Husbandry Department Mumtaz Hussain, Fomer CEC Rigzin Spalbar, Councilor and general public were also present to celebrate the occasion.
LBA President Tsewang Thinles in his New Year message to the people said that due to blessing of religious Masters past year was good with Rinpocheys holding number of teachings. He urged the populace to minimize the usage of alcohol and meat and strongly emphasized upon unity and equality to exhibit the exemplary cooperation among each other so that visitor can take good message from here. He seeks support from all stakeholders to complete the various different project initiated by LBA.
LAHDC Chairman Dr Sonam Dawa expressed hope to have good year ahead and added that coming years be glorious prevailing the community harmony, unity and brotherhood among the people.
On the northern arts and culture artists presented folk song and dance to entertain the gathering.
