Week-long AYUSH CME concludes at CSIR-IIIM Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 14: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, successfully concluded a week-long Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Modern Aspects in the Preparation and Validation of Traditional Medicines” here today.
The programme, sponsored by the Ministry of AYUSH and coordinated by Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, New Delhi, was attended by 28 scientists, faculty members and researchers from leading AYUSH institutions across the country.
A statement said the curriculum covered a wide range of themes such as discovery of marker compounds, stability studies, clinical research design, scientific writing, computational approaches to phytochemical research, formulation development, aromatherapy with essential oils, regulatory guidelines for AYUSH products, intellectual property rights, and preparation of fermented ayurvedic formulations.
Experts from ACTREC Navi Mumbai, CSIR-CFTRI Mysore and NIA Jaipur delivered scientific sessions.
Participants also received hands-on training in preparing Asava-Aristha in fermenters, using advanced instruments like HPLC, LC-MS and GC-MS, and handling laboratory animals.
Visits were arranged to the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Janaki Ammal Herbarium, Crude Drug Repository and Chattha Farm to observe aromatic oil distillation and medicinal plant cultivation.
Speaking at the valedictory session, Dr Koustoubha Upadhyaya, Adviser (Ayurveda), Ministry of AYUSH, praised CSIR-IIIM Jammu for strengthening the integration of traditional knowledge with modern science.
Director CSIR-IIIM, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, said the institute is committed to bridging traditional medicine and scientific validation to advance global healthcare.
An interactive session with participants discussed future collaborations, including developing SOPs for traditional medicines and promoting scientifically validated herbo-mineral formulations.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Ravindra S Phatake, Scientist, CSIR-IIIM.
