JAMMU, Aug 13: A six-day international webinar on the theme – Public Health, Women’s Agency and Peacebuilding during COVID -19, concluded with valedictory session that was attended by Mission Director, Integrated Child Protection Services and Sr Additional Advocate Seema Khajooria Shekher among other dignitaries.
The unique event was the result of a one-of-its-kind collaboration between The Law School, University of Jammu, Yakjah Reconciliation and Development Network and International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN).
The thrust of the four technical sessions was to bring forth local to global dynamics, stories and experiences of women, men and third gender by experts from their respective fields. Rich in content and stimulating discussion explored the role of the state, academia, judiciary, media and civil society in advancing women’s agency to leverage policy and aspirations of marginalized, vulnerable and those living on the edge communities.
The technical sessions were chaired by Aditi Kapoor, Co- Founder Alternative Futures; Archana Kapoor, Founder SMART and Mewat Radio; Dr Poonam Dhawan and Dr Vishav Raksha.
Two special invitees in the valedictory addressed a gathering of more than 100 people through zoom platform. Seema Shekher very aptly pointed that instead of Social Distancing, the need of the hour during COVID especially is Social Integration and Physical Distancing.
Shabnam Shah Kamili, Mission Director ICPS, stressed that it is important to sensitize men to women’s rights. She further acknowledged the initiatives taken by the Government in regard to women such as Jan Dhan Yojana, MGNREGA etc but added that the practicability of all laws and strategies is still under question.
Ashima Kaul, founder Yakjah said that it is only when we are deeply integrated within and operate from a transcendental space and reach to our higher potential of awareness, will we see the interconnectedness and oneness. She pointed that today’s war is of the parts with the whole which needs to be fought jointly to dissolve and dismantle the parts for the whole to emerge.
Prof Satinder Kumar and Dr Seema Sharma of The Law School presented their concluding address and vote of thanks. The Law School faculty; Dr Monica Narang, Dr Mrinalini Atrey and Dr Rajneesh Khajuria as moderators facilitated the sessions.
