SRINAGAR: A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit the region on March Ist when all the three Chilai will come to an end in the Kashmir valley, where the day remained sunny and night still chilly at several places.
The 40-day-long Chilai-e-Kalan from December 21, 2015, which was being considered harshest period of winter almost passed off without much snow though the night temperature remained below normal due to dry weather, while the 20-day-long Chilai-e-Khurd also witnessed same conditions.
The last of three Chilai ten-day-long Chilai Bacha will end on February 29, hours before a fresh WD is likely to hit the Kashmir valley which could result in isolated rain on March 1 and 2.
However, a Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that weather will remain dry in the Valley till February 29.
Maximum temperature remained above normal in the Valley, where the minimum temperature was sub zero at most of the places, including summer capital, Srinagar.
There was no respite for people in Leh and Kargil districts in Ladakh region, where the water bodies remained frozen.
Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amanrath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, remained coldest in the valley though the mercury was above normal. Against yesterday’s minus 2.9 degree celsius minimum temperature, it was minus 3.1 degree, still a notch above normal.(Agencies)
